FRONT TRANSMISSION COVER SCREW KIT

The front transmission cover screws are notoriously difficult to remove to service the gear change mechanism or replace the water pump.

A combination of being made from soft steel, having JIS crossheads (meaning that most folk will use the wrong standard Phillips screwdriver) and years of being directly in line of all the muck thrown up by the front wheel means that the chances of getting them out in re-usable condition are very slim indeed.

IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO USE A COPPER BASED ANTI-SEIZE COATING ON THESE SCREWS FOR TWO REASONS:

Stainless steel threads are very rough. Repeated insertion and removal will very quickly wear the threads in the soft alloy.

Without that copper barrier, there is the likelihood of electrolytic corrosion between the alloy and the stainless steel.

I have put together a full kit of stainless steel Allen head screws and washers, complete with alloy crush washers for the three water pump bolts, as faulty water pumps are the main reason for having to remove that cover. People invariably forget to order these when ordering the new pump and the gasket kits currently on the market don't include them either.
