GL1000 TIMING BELTS
We now stock QUINTON HAZEL timing belts for all GL1000 models 1975 - 1979.
(equivalent Honda Part number14400-371-004, 14400-649-003 or 14400649014, 14400-679-003, 14400-679-004.The same belts were used in the GL1000, GL1100, Honda Life and Acty pickup truck, hence the part number changes.)

These timing belts are made for them by GATES, the largest and probably the best know manufacturer of belts in the world, so you know you will be getting the best possible quality.
We very occasionally have shortage of belts from Quinton Hazel for the GL1000/1100 but we can supply quality products from
Goodyear or FAI Automotive. You will all have heard of Goodyear, quality is assured. FAI may be a new one to you - they are another major British distributor of auto parts in the same way as Quinton Hazel. Their 'own brand' GL1000/GL1100 belts are also made by Goodyear.

Since the timing belts are the two most important maintenance items in your engine, it makes sense to buy quality replacements. The Goldwing engine is an interference design, meaning if a belt breaks, you are likely to have severe engine damage. At the very least, you can expect to replace most valves on the side that has the broken belt. at the worst, you'll be looking for another engine! We recommend that you adhere to our following practices.
If we don't know the history of the belts absolutely for sure, we change them.
Even if we know the history, if the engine has been sitting for a considerable time without being turned over, we would change them as the belts can take a set due to being under tension.
More than 25,000 miles or five years since a change? Time for a change.
PLEASE REMEMBER! YOU SIMPLY CANNOT TELL THE CONDITION OF A BELT BY LOOKING AT IT!
Due to the construction of the belts, they very rarely show any signs of usage. They can look perfect one day and then go bang the next, without warning. If you have any doubts, changing them is the cheapest insurance against failure.
